Prepare Yourself for Chaos

Today is my husband's 40th Birthday...I'm throwing a party for him on Saturday.
Bryan's 40th Birthday Party
(This is the E-Invite I sent)

Our house would cause many of you to shudder in shock and disgust...so brace yourselves. You may want to bookmark this page so you can show your husbands, wives, cats, or neighbors how much more clean and organized your house is than mine.

(I bet you're thinking, "she's not really going to do this is she") Yep, I'm doing it.  It's actually kind of liberating...in an edited-so-you-don't-see-the-really-bad-mess kind of way.

To begin our lovely tour, there's a piano in my foyer...
Funny story - the previous homeowners left this piano behind for us.  When you move it, the front legs fall off.  Good fun when there are 2 of you moving it, and one of those 2 people only has 1 usable hand.
Pianos are heavy.

Then, we took out a closet, so there's a hole in the fireplace (maybe we should have checked that before ripping out the closet)...and also a hole in the ceiling that's waiting for my dad (Hi dad!) to help us rewire the electric.

(here's how it looked with the closet)

...and back to the tour...
As you can see, there's quite a lot of  unopened flooring....526.8 sq ft of it to be exact.

Finally, I welcome you to join me in our sun room (main living area)...
All of these toddler treasures, 2 couches, a chair, 2 ottomans, tv stand, tv, 2 tables...will be moved today so we can put down the new floor.
I wanted to paint all of the wood trim around the 14 windows in the sun room white before Saturday...but I don't see that happening.

And just to make it all a little more interesting...we are all sick and I found my waterlogged camera sitting next to the kitchen sink (had a clogged sink last night)...and I have 2 more wreaths to make and ship by Friday.

Don't you feel better now :)  Please don't feel bad for me...
relax and enjoy the humor of it all....that's what I'm doing, otherwise, I'd go crazy.

Don't forget to join me tomorrow for...

Time to move the furniture, so I'll talk to y'all later :).

take care -

Whimsical Wednesday: Build Your Own Cupcakes Printable

It's Wednesday, right?  I have trouble keeping track sometimes.

It's been a LOOOOONG time since I've done a Whimsical Wednesday post.
You're probably thinking, "what Whimsical Wednesday post?  This lady is losin' her damn mind."  And you might be right (about the mind-losing part)

Around the time I started my blog, I did a Whimsical Wednesday and a Salvaged Sunday post...but I wasn't very good about keeping track of it.  It's quite possible that I may still not be good at keeping track of it, but I'm going to try.  Feel free to harass and ridicule me if you find that I'm slacking off on it.

Some people gamble, some people shop...I pin.  So, when I came across this adorable printable there this morning,  I thought it would be a perfectly whimsical way to re-start Whimsical Wednesday.

Aren't these sweet cupcake cutouts from Creature Comforts almost yummy enough to eat?

This is my kind of baking.  Especially, since our kitchen is half-destroyed right now while we start to renovate it....this is about the only type of baking I'll be doing any time soon.

If you thing these cupcakes are cute, there are a TON of cute FREE printables at the Creature Comforts blog....

Also, if you are in search of super-cute free stuff - I have a bunch pinned to my....

...boards.
I also have some free printables on my specific holiday and season boards, so please stop by sometime
or

if you'd like. :)

Hope you have a wonderfully WHIMSICAL Wednesday!

Tutorial: Hanging Chalkboard Sign

Did everyone make it to Monday safely?  I hope so, after the horrible storms over the weekend.

If you know me, you know I love chalkboard paint...maybe a little too much.
I think half the stuff in my booth may be chalkboard-ed.

and that's just half my booth...there's more on the other side.

Seriously. I made chalkboard coasters. Go ahead, make fun of me.

Ahem...

A couple weeks ago, I decided to chalkboard paint an old window, and was on a search for other things to paint when I came across some scrap wood of my husband's...

He already had it cut into nice little pieces for me. I drilled a couple holes.
After drilling through one side of the board, my husband suggested running the drill through the hole from the other side to reduce the of splintered wood.  (You may want to sand over the holes too.)

Then, slap on a couple coats of chalkboard paint on all sides of the wood.
Once the paint dried, I sanded the  edges of mine for a distressed / worn look.
Finally, add string, ribbon, wire hanger of your length and choice...

Front - CLEAN

Back - DIRTY

Front -MAX

Back - Birthday

These are just a few options - but you could also do:
- Store - Open / Closed
- Office door - In / Out
- Kid's bedroom door
- Front door - "Welcome" or "We're in the backyard" or "Shhh, Baby's Sleeping"
- "Just Married"
- "Mr. / Mrs." or New last name
- "Feed the Dog" or "Walk the Dog"
-"Take your pills" or "Taken"

You're more imaginative than I am, so I'm sure you could thing of a million more uses...please comment if you think of something else.

I thought they'd also be pretty if you edged them in ribbon or trim - and they'd be pretty hung from a wide satin ribbon too.  The day I made them, I was working on about 5 different things at once, so I just used twine for them.

Have any of you tried making your own chalkboard paint using unsanded grout and paint?  Does it erase and work as well as the kind you buy at the store?
The thought of endless color options makes me giddy with excitement!

If you're too busy to make one yourself, I have these chalkboards in my Etsy Shop and can customize them to your specifications.z

My thoughts and prayers are with all of those who've been touched by the devastating storms in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Alabama over the past couple days.

Spruced up for Spring - Booth #44

Happy Friday!
As mentioned in my last post - my very, very dreary booth space n for Spring needed a total overhaul...

Can you say "BLAH!"

I knew that trying to fix my sad little space was going to take some time, so after lining my mom up to babysit the toddlers, we filled the truck with treasures and made the hour trip to Tipp City.

After 2 hours of work, I was pretty happy with the outcome...
I didn't notice the big bare spot on my bookshelf until I was looking at the pictures later...by the time we finished, I was starving, and when I'm hungry, I become unfocused and bitchy, uhh...difficult.

We found the big metal 1940's Emerson Electric fan that's on top of the wardrobe at an (AMAZING) auction  last weekend.  It weighs a TON and works perfectly; I really wanted to keep it, but since our house is mid-renovation right now, we have no room for extras to sit around.

Isn't the banner hanging from the green table cute?  I found it on Pinterest from the blog, Sandy Toes and Popsicles.

I also scored this amazing walnut dresser at the auction..there were also 9 (yes NINE) wash basins...who has 9 wash basins in their house?  And each one was gorgeous.  One with a marble top went for $50.  I was so mad at myself for not bidding on it.

See the metal stool on the bottom shelf of the wardrobe?  It's been in my booth since Day 1...it sold a day after re-doing my booth.  Yay!

I love the addition of the wardrobe to the space, we've had it for a couple months, as we were going to put it in our kitchen when we renovated...we got it for free from one of Bryan's friends.  (It has doors, we just didn't attach them because they blocked the back of the booth.)  I'm using it as a display piece for now.

So, it's not quite Macy's in the Springtime, but it's better than what I started with...

February went much better than January (thanks to all of your pieces of advice!)...so I'm hoping March goes even better.

Hope you have a great weekend!

A Tisket, A Tasket - Some Pretty Painted Baskets

The past couple days have been pretty warm for February in Ohio...which has inspired me to look towards spring, even though it's completely possible that there will be 5" of snow on the ground at this time next month.

Due to wreath-making and medical emergencies,  my booth (and my blog, and my house, and the laundry, and...) has been sadly neglected for the past couple weeks.  In order to gussy up my booth space for Spring, I forced myself to stop making wreaths for 2 days so I could  focus on it.

I had a vision in my mind of a flower-filled wonderland - ever been to Macy's in New York City in the Spring?

I quickly realized that 2 days with 2 toddlers and a $5 budget narrows my decor options.

One project I wanted to try was making some little vintage-ish Easter / Spring baskets.  I found a couple around the house and a bunch at the thrift store.

After running out of spray paint before making it through my first coat (I'm not patient enough for successful spray painting anyway), I slapped a couple coats of off-white latex satin paint on the baskets.

I was going to stop there, to keep them simple, but I had mixed up some pretty pastel colors for some chalk boards, and I couldn't resist adding some to the baskets too.

I really, really want to be an all-white decor-girl because I love the way it looks, but as hard as I try, color always sneaks in and messes with my vision.  After adding color, I sanded them down a little for a more aged look.

Aren't the Easter Tags cute?  Found them on Pinterest, of course!

Here's another basket I painted and then adorned with ribbon, buttons, and coffee-dyed coffee filters (did you expect anything else?).

I also covered a plastic egg with book page scraps...but I think the egg could be removed and the basket can be displayed any time of year.

A close-up of the ribbon and button detail.

I'm hoping that the addition of these Spring baskets make my booth space a little more fun and inviting.  But, just to keep things sassy, I'm going to wait to share pictures of my updated booth for the next couple days. Right now, I have flowers to make!

Thanks for sticking with me through the past couple crazy weeks, I really appreciate it and I'm hoping to make it up to you with some fun projects.

If you've commented on a post or emailed me - thank you SO much - I really do love hearing from you....but, as you might imagine, I'm really behind on that too.  I sincerely apologize - meeting new friends is one of my favorite parts of blogging and you deserve better!

I hope to party at some of these lovely blogs:
