Etsy Love: GALVANIZED

Wow, today has been a doozy of a day.  There must be a full moon or something because my toddlers have been out of control today. I was ready to put up the white flag and call it a day by 8am. No exaggeration.

Deep breaths.

One of my guilty pleasures is creating treasury lists, but I haven't done one in quite some time.

Galvanized metal is one of my most favorite things.(Has anyone been to the Pottery Barn Outlet Store lately - it's a galvanized wonderland of fantasticness!)

The look, the color, the patina of galvanized metal (whether it's really metal or not) is a fabulous thing!

I created this treasury display via Craft Cult's Etsy Treasury widget like I mentioned in Friday's Camp Etsy post.  

One tip - not sure about other blog editing tools, but in Blogger, when I pasted the widget into my "HTML" view, it didn't show up in the body of my post when I clicked back over to "Compose."  Obviously, it showed up once I published the post.

It's a fun, easy way to share your treasury lists - if you try one and have any issues, I'd be happy to help in any way I can.

Barn Sale Treasures - Part 2

One of the other sale-goers asked me how to remove rust from a metal lid that she was considering....(are you thinking what I'm thinking?) with a chuckle, I explained that the rust is my favorite part, so I actually spray it with polyurethane to preserve it.

Not sure what the correct term for this is - I don't think it's a gear. It has a channel in the wheel where a cord or chain would go - so it's some type of wheel or maybe part of a pulley? A big pulley.

Isn't this old account ledger so cool? This page is dated 1943.

9 hours of work for $4.50.  

This was tucked inside the ledger...

....along with some newspaper clippings, including a "Formula for Whitewash."

Plus, a nice little 4th of July card.

A spelling text book still had a little boy's homework tucked inside.

Many of the photos were ruined because the barn was more of a lean-to. Sadly, piles of great magazines and scrapbooks and family photos were in pretty poor condition from being exposed to the elements.

  This one is still in great shape -the little one on the left reminded me of my Emme and her crazy hair.

Matching outfits.  Some things never change.

Discovering these old film strip reels in metal containers was better than Christmas morning!

I tried to pick the ones with fun titles or colorful containers.  Does anyone know anything about these? I was just planning on throwing away the film and keeping the reels and containers.  

When my husband asked me why I wanted this, I looked behind me to see who he was talking to...

...because we usually like the same things.  I should have warned him that he may come home from work one day to find me cuddling with this little beauty.

(Oops, I just realized I posted it yesterday too...oh well, it's just THAT wonderful)

And I almost forgot...

...the deer antlers.  Honestly, they kind of gross me out...but I know that they are super-popular right now, and I thought someone might as well enjoy them rather than let them sit in an old dirty barn.

blah.

Barn Sale Treasures - Part 1

My husband and I don't get babysitters so we can go on a date night...we find someone to watch the kids when we find a good barn sale. 

 Mud, rust, dirt, old junk and lunch at Wendy's is our idea of a good time :).

Romantic, isn't it?

When I found this sale on Craig's List, I was thrilled because we went last year and I knew it was well-worth the 2-hour round trip drive.

The cubby shelf that went with these old hardware drawers was also there...but sadly, we had no way to get it home. (I'm still pretty emotional about it)

Obviously, still need to clean things up - but I was too excited to share with you.

Neat funnel - haven't seen one with a handle before.

A small metal pulley

There were countless piles of books and magazines and pictures...

I found this little box of vintage thumb tacks.

I can't even tell you how many boxes I couldn't get to...

or how many times I almost found myself lying in the middle of a mud puddle as I climbed over old tubas and mounted fish carcasses.

Isn't this metal watering can lovely?

After about an hour of rooting through boxes, I could tell my husband was ready to go as he seemed to inch closer and closer to our car every time I looked for him.

I'm planning on adding these items to my Etsy shop once I have a chance to clean them up...I have a couple wreath orders I need to finish up first.
